TOPCON AT-B3 Cyberdeck

TOPCON AT-B3 Cyberdeck

As a testament to the fascinating finds one can unearth in a secondhand store, I came across a case originally intended for Topcon leveling and surveying equipment. Looking at it, I sensed an unexpected opportunity for a cyberdeck project. Though there's no integration of wood in this one, the outcome was intriguing enough for me to share with you all.

Embracing the origins of the case, I decided to acknowledge the model name of the level that was initially housed within it, flavoring it with an engaging subtitle for good measure. Implementing the unique colors, logo, and font used by Topcon and incorporating them into Conky helped to seamlessly extend the theme. The desktop background, a nod to the genuine item that once resided in the case, adds a whimsical touch.

While I bear no connection to Topcon, and they might not entirely approve of my unconventional use of their equipment cases, I believe it's beneficial to share this discovery with you. It's interesting to note that these Topcon's latest model cases (AT-B4 and "AT-B series") often surface on eBay. They're identically designed and prove to be an excellent fit for such projects. If you're based in the US and prefer a change of color, Sokkia produces a similar red case for their B40A and B30A models.

For those of you interested in truly diving into the project, you can find the 3D files available for free at this link. A little creativity, a touch of tech, and an old case can lead to truly interesting creations.
